Before this event, only Zulaikha was in love with Yusuf, but after seeing him, the Egyptian women also began to desire him. Zulaikha threatened Yusuf with imprisonment if he did not submit to her. However, Yusuf preferred prison over the temptation of the Egyptian women. Imam Suyuti wrote:
“And two young men entered the prison with him. They were servants of the king; one was his cupbearer and the other his cook. They saw him interpreting dreams and said, ‘Let us test him.’ One of them, the cupbearer, said, ‘I saw myself pressing wine’—meaning grapes. The other, the cook, said, ‘I saw myself carrying bread on my head, from which birds were eating. Tell us the interpretation of it, for we see you are among the good-doers.'” [14]
Prophet Yusuf interpreted that the cupbearer would regain his freedom and return to his position, while the cook would be crucified in a few days. And it happened just as Yusuf said. Yusuf then told the cupbearer to remember him in front of his master, but the cupbearer forgot, and Yusuf remained in prison for more years.
The King’s Dreams
Surah Yusuf, Verse 43 states:”And the king (of Egypt) said, ‘Indeed, I have seen [in a dream] seven fat cows being eaten by seven lean cows, and seven green ears of grain, and [seven] others that were dry. O eminent ones explain to me my vision, if you should interpret visions.'”The king called for soothsayers and magicians, but they became unable to interpret the dream. Now, the cupbearer remembered Yusuf. He then went to Yusuf and explained the king’s dream. Yusuf told them that Egypt would be struck by famine as mentioned in the Quran.
The fulfillment of Allah’s Promise
When the king heard this precise and perfect interpretation, he ordered Yusuf’s release. However, Yusuf refused, saying, “What was the matter with the women who cut their fingers?” The king summoned the involved women to investigate the matter, and all the women testified to Yusuf’s innocence. After this, Yusuf was finally released from prison and entered the palace, where the dream he had as a child began to be fulfilled after all these years. Allah had bestowed upon him knowledge, wisdom, and prophethood, and it was now time for Yusuf to spread the message of Allah and eliminate polytheism from Egypt.
The king appointed him as the minister of finance, as they knew the danger that would arise soon
Arrival of Yusuf’s Brothers in Egypt
The people were struck by famine, even in the land of Jacob where he was. So he sent his sons to Egypt, but kept back Benjamin, the brother of Joseph. When they entered upon Joseph, he recognized them, but they did not recognize him. When he saw them, he said, “Tell me, what is your business, for I find your situation unusual!” They said, “We are people from the land of Sham.” He asked, “What brought you here?” They said, “We came to buy provisions.” He responded, “You are lying; you are spies. How many are you?” They said, “We are ten.” He said, “You are ten thousand, and each of you is a leader of a thousand men. So, tell me your story.” They replied, “We are brothers, the sons of a righteous man, and we used to be twelve. Our father loved one of our brothers, and he went with us into the wilderness, where he perished. He was the most beloved of us to our father.” Joseph asked, “Whom did your father turn to after him?” They said, “To another brother of ours, younger than him.” Joseph replied, “How can you claim that your father is righteous when he loves the youngest of you more than the eldest? Bring me this brother of yours so I may see him.” [15]
The Return of Yusuf’s Brothers and Their Second Journey to Egypt
When they were about to leave for Egypt, their price was put back in their goods so that they may return when they see it. They came and told that story that the Aziz of Egypt would not give them grain if they didn’t bring Binyamin with themselves. At first, Jacob did not allow it, but after taking an oath, they were permitted to go. The father instructed them not to enter through the same door.When they (the sons of Jacob) entered upon Yusuf (Joseph), they said: ‘This is our brother whom you commanded us to bring to you, and we have brought him.’ I was informed that he said to them: ‘You have done well and acted correctly, and you will find that with me,’ or something similar to that. Then he said: ‘I see you are men, and I wish to honor you.’ He called his host and said: ‘Set each two men together, and honor them and treat them generously.’ Then he said: ‘I see that this man you have brought has no companion, so I will take him in, and his place will be with me.’ He placed them two by two in separate dwellings and had his brother stay with him. When he was alone with him, he said: ‘I am your brother, I am Yusuf, so do not be distressed by what they have done to us in the past, for Allah has been kind to us. And do not inform them of anything I have told you. [16].
خوبصورت عورتوں پر جیل کو ترجیح دینا
اس واقعہ سے پہلے صرف زلیخا کو یوسف کی محبت تھی لیکن اسے دیکھ کر مصری عورتیں بھی اس کی خواہش کرنے لگیں۔ زلیخا نے یوسف کو دھمکی دی کہ اگر اس نے اسے تسلیم نہیں کیا تو اسے قید کر دیا جائے گا۔ تاہم یوسف نے مصری عورتوں کے فتنہ پر جیل کو ترجیح دی۔ امام سیوطی نے لکھا ہے:
“اور دو نوجوان اُس کے ساتھ قید خانے میں داخل ہوئے۔ وہ بادشاہ کے نوکر تھے، ایک اُس کا ساقی اور دوسرا اُس کا باورچی۔ اُنہوں نے اُسے خوابوں کی تعبیر دیتے ہوئے دیکھا اور کہا، چلو اُس کا امتحان لیں۔” ان میں سے ایک پیالہ دار نے کہا کہ میں نے اپنے آپ کو شراب دباتے ہوئے دیکھا ہے یعنی دوسرے باورچی نے کہا کہ میں نے اپنے سر پر روٹی اٹھائے ہوئے دیکھا جس سے پرندے کھا رہے تھے، کیونکہ ہم دیکھتے ہیں کہ آپ نیک لوگوں میں سے ہیں۔
حضرت یوسف نے تعبیر کیا کہ پینے والا اپنی آزادی دوبارہ حاصل کر لے گا اور اپنے مقام پر واپس آ جائے گا جبکہ باورچی کو چند دنوں میں سولی پر چڑھایا جائے گا۔ اور ایسا ہی ہوا جیسا کہ یوسف نے کہا تھا۔ اس کے بعد یوسف نے ساقی سے کہا کہ وہ اسے اپنے آقا کے سامنے یاد کرے، لیکن ساقی بھول گیا اور یوسف مزید سال قید میں رہا۔
بادشاہ کے خواب
سورہ یوسف آیت نمبر 43 میں ہے:
“اور (مصر کے) بادشاہ نے کہا کہ میں نے خواب میں دیکھا ہے کہ سات موٹی گائیں سات دبلی پتلی گائیں کھا رہی ہیں اور سات ہری بالیاں ہیں اور سات سوکھی ہیں۔
بادشاہ نے کاہن اور جادوگروں کو بلایا لیکن وہ خواب کی تعبیر نہ دے سکے۔ اب پیالے کو یوسف یاد آیا۔ پھر وہ یوسف کے پاس گیا اور بادشاہ کا خواب بیان کیا۔ یوسف نے انہیں بتایا کہ مصر میں قحط پڑے گا جیسا کہ قرآن میں مذکور ہے۔
اللہ کے وعدے کی تکمیل
بادشاہ نے جب یہ قطعی اور کامل تاویل سنی تو یوسف کی رہائی کا حکم دیا۔ تاہم یوسف نے یہ کہتے ہوئے انکار کر دیا کہ ان خواتین کا کیا معاملہ تھا جنہوں نے اپنی انگلیاں کاٹ دیں۔ بادشاہ نے اس معاملے کی تفتیش کے لیے ملوث خواتین کو طلب کیا اور تمام عورتوں نے یوسف کی بے گناہی کی گواہی دی۔ اس کے بعد بالآخر یوسف جیل سے رہا ہوا اور محل میں داخل ہوا، جہاں بچپن میں اس نے جو خواب دیکھا تھا وہ اتنے سالوں کے بعد پورا ہونا شروع ہوا۔ اللہ نے آپ کو علم، حکمت اور نبوت سے نوازا تھا، اور اب یوسف کے لیے اللہ کا پیغام پھیلانے اور مصر سے شرک کو ختم کرنے کا وقت آ گیا تھا۔
بادشاہ نے اسے وزیر خزانہ مقرر کیا کیونکہ وہ جلد ہی پیدا ہونے والے خطرے کو جانتے تھے۔
مصر میں یوسف کے بھائیوں کی آمد
لوگ قحط سے مارے گئے، یہاں تک کہ یعقوب کے ملک میں جہاں وہ تھا۔ چنانچہ اس نے اپنے بیٹوں کو مصر بھیجا لیکن یوسف کے بھائی بنیامین کو واپس رکھا۔ جب وہ یوسف کے پاس پہنچے تو اس نے ان کو پہچان لیا لیکن انہوں نے اسے نہ پہچانا۔ جب اس نے ان کو دیکھا تو کہا، “مجھے بتاؤ، تمہارا کیا کام ہے، کیونکہ مجھے تمہاری حالت غیر معمولی معلوم ہوتی ہے!” کہنے لگے ہم شام کے لوگ ہیں۔ اس نے پوچھا تمہیں یہاں کیا لایا ہے؟ کہنے لگے ہم رزق خریدنے آئے تھے۔ اس نے جواب دیا، “تم جھوٹ بول رہے ہو، تم جاسوس ہو، تم کتنے ہو؟” کہنے لگے ہم دس ہیں۔ اس نے کہا تم دس ہزار ہو اور تم میں سے ہر ایک ہزار آدمیوں کا سردار ہے تو مجھے اپنی کہانی سناؤ۔ انہوں نے جواب دیا، “ہم بھائی ہیں، ایک نیک آدمی کے بیٹے ہیں، اور ہم بارہ سال تھے، ہمارے والد ہمارے ایک بھائی سے محبت کرتے تھے، اور وہ ہمارے ساتھ بیابان میں چلے گئے، جہاں وہ ہلاک ہو گئے، وہ ہمارے والد کو ہم سب سے زیادہ پیارے تھے۔” یوسف علیہ السلام نے پوچھا تیرے باپ نے ان کے بعد کس کی طرف رجوع کیا؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمارے دوسرے بھائی سے جو اس سے چھوٹے ہیں۔ یوسف نے جواب دیا کہ تم کیسے دعویٰ کر سکتے ہو کہ تمہارا باپ نیک ہے جب کہ وہ تم میں سے سب سے چھوٹے کو بڑے سے زیادہ پیار کرتا ہے، اپنے اس بھائی کو میرے پاس لاؤ تاکہ میں اسے دیکھ سکوں۔ [15]
یوسف کے بھائیوں کی واپسی اور ان کا مصر کا دوسرا سفر
جب وہ مصر کے لیے روانہ ہونے والے تھے تو ان کی قیمت ان کے سامان میں واپس رکھ دی گئی تاکہ وہ اسے دیکھ کر واپس آجائیں۔ انہوں نے آکر وہ قصہ سنایا کہ مصر کے عزیز انہیں اناج نہیں دیں گے اگر وہ بنیامین کو اپنے ساتھ نہ لائے۔ پہلے تو یعقوب نے اجازت نہیں دی لیکن حلف اٹھانے کے بعد انہیں جانے کی اجازت دے دی گئی۔ والد نے انہیں ہدایت کی کہ وہ اسی دروازے سے داخل نہ ہوں۔
جب وہ (بیٹے یعقوب) یوسف (علیہ السلام) کے پاس پہنچے تو کہنے لگے کہ یہ ہمارا بھائی ہے جسے آپ نے ہمیں اپنے پاس لانے کا حکم دیا تھا اور ہم اسے لے آئے ہیں۔ مجھے اطلاع ملی کہ اس نے ان سے کہا: ‘تم نے اچھا کام کیا ہے اور صحیح کام کیا ہے، اور تم اسے میرے ساتھ پاؤ گے’ یا اس سے ملتی جلتی کوئی چیز۔ پھر اس نے کہا: ‘میں دیکھ رہا ہوں کہ تم مرد ہو، اور میں تمہاری عزت کرنا چاہتا ہوں۔’ اس نے اپنے میزبان کو بلایا اور کہا: ‘ہر دو آدمیوں کو اکٹھا کرو، اور ان کی عزت کرو اور ان کے ساتھ حسن سلوک کرو۔’ پھر فرمایا: میں دیکھتا ہوں کہ اس آدمی کا کوئی ساتھی نہیں ہے جو تم لائے ہو، اس لیے میں اسے اندر لے جاؤں گا، اور اس کی جگہ میرے ساتھ ہو گی۔ اس نے انہیں دو دو کر کے الگ الگ مکانوں میں رکھا اور اپنے بھائی کو اپنے ساتھ رہنے دیا۔ جب وہ اس کے پاس اکیلے تھے تو اس نے کہا: میں تمہارا بھائی ہوں، میں یوسف ہوں، پس جو کچھ انہوں نے ہمارے ساتھ ماضی میں کیا ہے اس سے پریشان نہ ہو، کیونکہ اللہ ہم پر مہربان ہے۔ اور جو کچھ میں نے تم سے کہا ہے اس کی خبر ان کو نہ دو۔ [16]۔
