“And it is He who created the heavens & the earth in six days, and His throne was on the water (He created you) so that He may test you who does good deeds amongst you” (Surah Hud Ayat 7).
Looking at this mysterious world/universe, a combination of the heavens above, the earth below, the sun, the moon, the shining stars, the highest peak of the mountains, the rivers, and even humankind himself—a man might have a question: how did all these come into existence? Is there any wise planner behind this, who runs this wisely organized system? What is the starting point, and when will the end happen? Or are all these eternal? Islam has given a clear answer that the universe begins & ends with Allah; only Allah remains.
Holy Quran and Modern Science
From the Islamic perspective, the creation of the universe is vivid evidence of the existence of Allah, the Creator of all things. The Holy Quran is believed among Muslims to be the literal word of God. The Quran encourages humankind to have a glimpse of nature to seek Allah’s presence. Interestingly, what modern science discoveries explore were mentioned over 1400 years ago in the holy Quran, which support the truth of Islam. This concept is highlighted in the Quran:
“Don’t the unbelievers see that the heavens & the earth were once joined together, then we split them apart” (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:30)
This aligns with the most advanced findings of NASA’s WMAP & Planck Satellite Observation, Edwin Hubble’s Discovery, and Albert Einstein, regarding the Big Bang, [1.2.3] according to which the universe around 13.8 billion years ago was a single point. Immediately a massive explosion occurred, causing these heavenly bodies to separate and to lead the formation of galaxies, stars, the sun, the moon, and the earth.
Why did Allah not Create the Universe in one Moment?
Allah is powerful when intends just say, “Be, and it is,” then why does Allah take six days in the creation of the skies & earth? As stated in the Quran:
“Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne.”. (Surah No. 7 Ayat No. 54)
The commentaries have given many answers; the two most important answers are as follows:
Imam Razi mentioned in his book ‘Tafseeer-e- Kabeer’ that if Allah creates all of this in just a moment, some might assume that all of this came into existence by chance, but when they are made with purpose and wisdom, step by step, it is a piece of strong evidence that the creation of the heavens & earth is the artisanship of such a being who posseses wisdom, power, knowledge, & compassion. [4]
In Tafseer-e- Madarik, the wisdom behind creating the heavens & earth in six days instead of just saying to them, ‘Be,’ was to teach creation the values of steadiness, consistency, stability, and patience. [5]
The Concept of Eternity: No beginning, No end
A prophetic narration mentions:
“Allah existed from eternity (Azal), and there was nothing besides Him” (Sahih al-Bukhari 7418).
The term ‘eternal’ refers to having neither a beginning nor an end. Unlike the Aristotle’s “Physics” and “Metaphysics” [6] that the movement of the heavens is eternal, Islam presents the concept of its difinete beginning. Science says that the universe was created but has not provided a definitive reason for this phenomenon. Built on Revelation, (Wahi), Islam teaches us that a wise and powerful Planner is behind creation.
Allah is not bound by time, space, or place because he created them all. For example, just as a watchmaker makes a watch, but he is present outside of it, Allah created time yet remains beyond it and place.
Why did Allah create the world?
Time came into existence when the Pen was created and was commanded to write everything that would happen until the Day of Judgement.
Ubadah ibn al-Samit (RA) reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Indeed, the first thing that Allah created was the Pen (Qalam). He then commanded it to write, so it wrote all things. (Sunan al-Tirmidhī 33319)
Modern science follows Einstein’s theory that time & space began after the Big Bang [7]. Some might find these concepts confusing, so let’s differentiate between them in certain aspects:
Science is based on observation & experimentation. Matters unreachable with the humankind knowledge source can only be known through revelation. Science has not so advanced to touch the heights of the heavens.
Science is constantly evolving. It is very possible that today science acknowledges the starting of time & space following the Big Bang, and then it changes with time.
For example, it was once widely believed that an atom is not indivisible, but later it was discovered that
it can be divided further into smaller particles.
یہ دنیا کیسے بنی؟ اسلام میں ازل کی کہانی
’’اور وہی ہے جس نے آسمانوں اور زمین کو چھ دنوں میں پیدا کیا اور اس کا تخت پانی پر تھا (اس نے تمہیں پیدا کیا) تاکہ وہ تمہیں آزمائے کہ تم میں سے کون اچھے کام کرتا ہے‘‘ (سورہ ہود آیت 7)۔
اس پراسرار دنیا/کائنات کو دیکھ کر، اوپر کے آسمانوں، نیچے زمین، سورج، چاند، چمکتے ستارے، پہاڑوں کی بلند ترین چوٹی، دریا، حتیٰ کہ خود بنی نوع انسان کے مجموعے کو دیکھ کر انسان کے ذہن میں سوال ہو سکتا ہے کہ یہ سب کیسے وجود میں آئے؟ کیا اس کے پیچھے کوئی عقلمند منصوبہ ساز ہے، جو اس دانشمندی سے منظم نظام کو چلاتا ہے؟ نقطہ آغاز کیا ہے، اور آخر کب ہو گا؟ یا یہ سب ابدی ہیں؟ اسلام نے واضح جواب دیا ہے کہ کائنات اللہ سے شروع ہوتی ہے اور ختم ہوتی ہے۔ صرف اللہ باقی ہے۔
قرآن پاک اور جدید سائنس
اسلامی نقطہ نظر سے کائنات کی تخلیق ہر چیز کے خالق اللہ کے وجود کا واضح ثبوت ہے۔ مسلمانوں کے درمیان قرآن پاک کو خدا کا لفظی لفظ مانا جاتا ہے۔ قرآن انسان کو اللہ کی موجودگی کی تلاش کے لیے فطرت کی جھلک دیکھنے کی ترغیب دیتا ہے۔ دلچسپ بات یہ ہے کہ جدید سائنس کی دریافتوں کا تذکرہ 1400 سال پہلے قرآن پاک میں کیا گیا تھا جو اسلام کی سچائی کی تائید کرتے ہیں۔ قرآن مجید میں اس تصور پر روشنی ڈالی گئی ہے:
’’کیا کافر یہ نہیں دیکھتے کہ آسمان اور زمین ایک بار ایک دوسرے سے جڑے ہوئے تھے، پھر ہم نے ان کو پھاڑ دیا‘‘ (سورۃ الانبیاء 21:30)
یہ بگ بینگ کے حوالے سے ناسا کے ڈبلیو ایم اے پی اور پلانک سیٹلائٹ آبزرویشن، ایڈون ہبل کی دریافت، اور البرٹ آئن سٹائن کی جدید ترین دریافتوں کے ساتھ مطابقت رکھتا ہے، [1.2.3] جس کے مطابق تقریباً 13.8 بلین سال قبل کائنات ایک نقطہ تھی۔ فوری طور پر ایک زبردست دھماکہ ہوا، جس سے یہ آسمانی اجسام الگ ہو گئے اور کہکشاؤں، ستاروں، سورج، چاند اور زمین کی تشکیل کا باعث بنے۔
اللہ نے دنیا کیوں بنائی؟
اللہ طاقتور ہے جب ارادہ کرتا ہے تو صرف کہہ دیتا ہے کہ ہو جا اور وہ ہو جاتا ہے تو پھر اللہ زمین و آسمان کی تخلیق میں چھ دن کیوں لگاتا ہے؟ جیسا کہ قرآن میں ارشاد ہے:
’’بے شک تمہارا رب اللہ ہے جس نے آسمانوں اور زمین کو چھ دنوں میں پیدا کیا پھر عرش پر قائم ہوا۔‘‘ (سورہ نمبر 7 آیت نمبر 54)
تفسیروں نے بہت سے جوابات دیے ہیں۔ دو اہم ترین جوابات درج ذیل ہیں:
امام رازی نے اپنی کتاب ’’تفسیرِ کبیر‘‘ میں ذکر کیا ہے کہ اگر اللہ تعالیٰ یہ سب کچھ ایک لمحے میں پیدا کر دیتا ہے تو کچھ لوگ یہ گمان کر سکتے ہیں کہ یہ سب کچھ اتفاقاً وجود میں آیا ہے، لیکن جب ان کو مقصد اور حکمت کے ساتھ قدم بہ قدم بنایا جاتا ہے تو یہ اس بات کی مضبوط دلیل ہے کہ آسمان و زمین کی تخلیق ایک ایسی ہستی کی کاریگری ہے جو علم اور قدرت رکھنے والی ہے۔ [4]
تفسیر مدارک میں آسمانوں اور زمین کو چھ دنوں میں تخلیق کرنے کے پیچھے صرف یہ کہنے کے بجائے کہ ’’ہوجا‘‘ کی حکمت یہ تھی کہ مخلوق کو استقامت، استقامت، استقامت اور صبر کی قدر سکھائی جائے۔ [5
ابدیت کا تصور: کوئی ابتدا نہیں، کوئی انتہا نہیں!
ایک حدیث نبوی میں مذکور ہے:
’’اللہ ازل سے موجود ہے اور اس کے سوا کوئی چیز نہیں‘‘ (صحیح البخاری 7418)۔
اصطلاح ‘ابدی’ سے مراد نہ تو ابتدا ہے اور نہ انتہا۔ ارسطو کی “فزکس” اور “میٹا فزکس” [6] کے برعکس کہ آسمانوں کی حرکت ابدی ہے، اسلام اس کے مختلف آغاز کا تصور پیش کرتا ہے۔ سائنس کہتی ہے کہ کائنات کی تخلیق تو ہوئی ہے لیکن اس نے اس رجحان کی کوئی حتمی وجہ فراہم نہیں کی ہے۔ وحی پر بنایا گیا، (واہی)، اسلام ہمیں سکھاتا ہے کہ تخلیق کے پیچھے ایک عقلمند اور طاقتور منصوبہ ساز ہے۔
اللہ وقت، جگہ یا جگہ کا پابند نہیں ہے کیونکہ اس نے ان سب کو پیدا کیا ہے۔ مثال کے طور پر جس طرح گھڑی بنانے والا گھڑی بناتا ہے لیکن وہ اس کے باہر موجود ہوتا ہے، اللہ تعالیٰ نے وقت پیدا کیا لیکن اس سے باہر اور جگہ باقی ہے۔
اللہ نہ دنیا میں سب سے پہلے کیا بنا
- وقت اس وقت وجود میں آیا جب قلم پیدا ہوا اور اسے حکم دیا گیا کہ وہ سب کچھ لکھے جو قیامت تک ہونے والا ہے۔
- عبادہ بن الصامت رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”بے شک اللہ تعالیٰ نے سب سے پہلی چیز قلم (قلم) کو پیدا کیا۔ پھر اس نے اسے لکھنے کا حکم دیا تو اس نے سب کچھ لکھا۔ (سنن الترمذی 33319)
- جدید سائنس آئن سٹائن کے نظریہ کی پیروی کرتی ہے کہ وقت اور جگہ کا آغاز بگ بینگ کے بعد ہوا [7]۔ کچھ کو یہ تصورات مبہم لگ سکتے ہیں، لہذا آئیے ان کے درمیان کچھ پہلوؤں میں فرق کریں:
- سائنس مشاہدے اور تجربات پر مبنی ہے۔ انسانی علم کے منبع کے ساتھ ناقابل رسائی معاملات کو صرف وحی کے ذریعے معلوم کیا جاسکتا ہے۔ سائنس اتنی ترقی نہیں کر سکی کہ آسمان کی بلندیوں کو چھو سکے۔
- سائنس مسلسل ترقی کر رہی ہے۔ یہ بہت ممکن ہے کہ آج سائنس بگ بینگ کے بعد وقت اور جگہ کے آغاز کو تسلیم کرتی ہے، اور پھر یہ وقت کے ساتھ بدل جاتا ہے۔
- مثال کے طور پر، ایک زمانے میں یہ خیال کیا جاتا تھا کہ ایٹم ناقابل تقسیم نہیں ہے، لیکن بعد میں پتہ چلا کہ اسے مزید چھوٹے ذرات میں تقسیم کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
