Travel Habits of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)
Day of Travel and Time of Departure
When the Holy Prophet (PBUH) set out on a journey himself or sent someone else, he considered Thursday a suitable day for departure. He liked to ride at a fast pace during his journey, and when he saw that the journey was long, he would speed up even more. When he stopped somewhere during his journey and set off, it was his good habit to set off in the morning.
Arrangement of Staying and Prayer during Travel
No matter how short a stay he made on a journey, he would not leave until he had offered the double prayer. When a traveler returned from a journey and attended the service of the Most High, he would hug him and kiss his forehead. (Zad al-Ma’ad)
Participating in Work During Travel
When he was with his companions during the journey and had to do some work (for example, cooking food, etc.), he would definitely participate in the work. For example, at a camp, all the companions decided to cook and each one took on a task, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) took on the task of collecting firewood. Entering the mosque on return and loving children
On returning from a journey, he would not go straight into the house, but would go to the mosque, offer the double prayer and then go home. When returning from a journey, if he came to the city and met children on the way, he would make them sit on his horse, the younger child in front of him and the older one behind. (Zaad al-Ma’aad)
Making the companions ride with him on a journey
When he went on a journey or went out for jihad, he would make one of his companions ride with him. (Zad al-Ma’ad)
Journey’s Prayer
When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out for a journey and sat comfortably on the ride, he would say Allahu Akbar three times and then recite this dua:
Glory be to the one who has given us this and what we have made for him. We have traveled in this way of righteousness and piety and of doing what pleases us. We have traveled this way and have departed from it, O Allah, You are the Companion in the journey and the Successor in the family and wealth. (Zad An-Nahar)
Supplication for returning from a journey
And when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) returned from a journey, he would recite the same supplication, but he would add these words to it:
We have returned from a journey, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord. * We have returned from a journey, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord. (Zad al-Ma’ad)
Supplications for elevation and descent
When the rider ascended a height, he would say Allahu Akbar three times and say:
Allahumma laka al-sharraf ‘ala kulli sharif wa laka al-hamdu ‘ala kulli haal. (Zad al-Ma’ad)
When the rider descended a low point, he would say Subhan Allah three times. When placing his feet in the stirrups, he would say Bismillah.
Supplication for entering the city
When he intended to stay in a city or village and he saw it from a distance, these words would be on his blessed tongue:
Allahumma arzqana ‘janaaha wa jijibuna ‘ala ahu Supplication for sending someone on a journey
When he sent someone on a journey, he would recite this supplication:
I entrust your religion, your trust, and the outcome of your actions to Allah.
(I entrust to Allah your religion, your trust, and the outcome of your actions.) (Zad al-Ma’ad)
Supplication for returning home
When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned from a journey and went to his family, he would say:
Repent to our Lord, or leave us alone.
(We repent a lot to our Lord and do not leave any sin in us.) (Zad al-Ma’ad)
Supplication for the blessing of time during travel
When he would travel, he would set out early in the morning and pray to Allah Almighty to bless his Ummah with a good morning on their journey. If there were three travelers, he would order them to make one of them a leader. (Zad al-Ma’ad)
Instructions regarding travel
1. It is better and Sunnah that at least two people go on a journey, and a person should not travel alone, however, there is no harm in necessity and compulsion.
2. It is Sunnah to travel on Thursdays and Mustahabb on Saturdays.
3. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said that when the need for travel is fulfilled, one should return home immediately, and it is not appropriate to stay on a journey unnecessarily for a long time.
4. When returning from a long journey, one should not enter the house suddenly, but it is better to inform the family of your arrival, so that they can prepare. However, if information has been given in advance, there is no harm in entering immediately.
5. It is Sunnah to go to the mosque and pray two rak’ahs of prayer before entering the house after returning from a journey. (Zad al-Ma’ad)
سفر کا دن اور روانگی کا وقت
آنحضرت صلى الله عليه وسلم سفر کیلئے خود روانہ ہوتے یا کسی اور کو روانہ فرماتے تو جمعرات کے روز کو روانگی کیلئے مناسب خیال فرماتے۔ آپ سفر میں سواری کو زیادہ تر تیز رفتاری سے چلانا پسند فرماتے اور جب دیکھتے کہ راستہ لمبا ہے تو رفتار اور تیز کر دیتے۔ سفر میں کہیں پڑاؤ کر کے روانہ ہوتے تو عادتِ طیبہ تھی کہ صبح کے وقت کوچ فرماتے۔
سفر میں قیام اور نماز کا اہتمام
سفر میں کتنی ہی کم مدت کیلئے ٹھہرتے، جب تک نمازِ دوگانہ ادا نہ فرماتے وہاں سے روانہ نہیں ہوتے۔ جب کوئی مسافر سفر سے واپس آتا اور خدمتِ اقدس میں حاضری دیتا تو اس سے معانقہ کرتے اور اس کی پیشانی پر بوسہ دیتے۔ (زاد المعاد)
سفر میں کام کاج میں شرکت
سفر میں آپ اپنے ہمراہیوں کے ساتھ ہوتے اور کوئی کام سب کو کرنا ہوتا (مثلاً کھانا وغیرہ پکانا) تو آپ کام کاج میں ضرور حصہ لیتے۔ مثلاً ایک پڑاؤ پر سب اصحاب نے کھانا پکانے کا ارادہ کیا اور ہر ایک نے ایک ایک کام اپنے ذمہ لیا تو حضور صلى الله عليه وسلم نے لکڑیاں چن لانے کا کام اپنے ذمہ لیا۔ (زاد المعاد)
واپسی پر مسجد میں داخلہ اور بچوں سے محبت
سفر سے واپسی پر آپ سیدھے مکان کے اندر تشریف نہیں لے جاتے بلکہ مسجد میں جا کر نمازِ دوگانہ ادا فرماتے اور پھر گھر میں تشریف لے جاتے۔ سفر سے تشریف لاتے وقت شہر میں آکر بچے راستے میں ملتے تو ان کو آپ اپنی سواری پر بٹھا لیتے، چھوٹے بچے کو اپنے آگے بٹھاتے اور بڑے کو پیچھے۔ (زاد المعاد)
سفر میں صحابہ کو سواری پر ساتھ بٹھانا
آپ جب سفر میں جاتے یا جہاد کیلئے نکلتے تو اصحاب میں سے کسی ایک صحابی کو اپنے ہمراہ سواری پر بٹھاتے۔ (زاد المعاد)
سفر کی دعا
جب آنحضرت صلى الله عليه وسلم سفر کیلئے روانہ ہوتے اور سواری پر اچھی طرح بیٹھ جاتے تو تین مرتبہ اللہ اکبر کہتے اور پھر یہ دعا پڑھتے:
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخْرَلَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِيْنَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبَّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ ، أَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْتَلْكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرُّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى، اللَّهُم هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ، اللهم أنتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السِّفَرِ وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ۔ (زاد النهار)
سفر سے واپسی کی دعا
اور جب آنحضرت صلى الله عليه وسلم سفر سے واپس تشریف لاتے تو یہی دعا پڑھتے، مگر اس کے ساتھ یہ الفاظ بھی بڑھا دیتے:
انبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ * ہم سفر سے آنے والے ہیں، توبہ کرنے والے ہیں، عبادت کرنے والے ہیں، اور اپنے پروردگار کی حمد کرنے والے ہیں۔ (زاد المعاد)
بلندی اور پستی کی دعائیں
جب کسی بلندی پر سواری چڑھتی تو تین مرتبہ اللہ اکبر کہتے اور یہ فرماتے:
اللَّهُم لَكَ الشَّرَفُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَرفٍ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ۔ (زاد المعاد)
جب کسی پستی میں سواری اترتی تو تین مرتبہ سبحان اللہ کہتے۔ رکاب میں پاؤں رکھتے وقت بسم اللہ فرماتے۔
شہر میں داخل ہونے کی دعا
جب شہر یا گاؤں میں قیام کا ارادہ ہوتا اور آپ اسے دور سے دیکھ لیتے تو زبانِ مبارک پر یہ الفاظ ہوتے:
اللهم ارزقنَا جَنَاهَا وَجَيْبُنَا إِلَى أَهْلِهَا وَحَبِّبْ صَالِحِي أَهْلِهَا إِلَيْنَا۔
سفر پر روانہ کرنے کی دعا
جب آپ کسی شخص کو سفر کیلئے رخصت فرماتے تو یہ دعا پڑھتے:
اسْتَودِعُ اللهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَخَوَاتِيمَ أَعْمَالِك۔
(اللہ کے سپرد کرتا ہوں میں تیرے دین کو، تیری قابلِ حفاظت چیزوں کو، اور تیرے اعمال کے انجام کو۔) (زاد المعاد)
گھر میں واپسی کے وقت کی دعا
آنحضرت صلى الله عليه وسلم جب کسی سفر سے واپس ہوتے اور اپنے گھر والوں میں تشریف لے جاتے تو فرماتے:
تُوباً لِرَبِّنَا أَوْ يَا لَأَيُغَادِرُ عَلَيْنَا حَوْبًا۔
(بہت زیادہ توبہ کرتے ہیں ہم اپنے رب کی طرف اور نہ چھوڑے ہم میں کوئی گناہ۔) (زاد المعاد)
سفر میں وقت کی برکت کی دعا
جب آپ سفر کرتے تو ابتدائی دن میں نکلتے اور اللہ تعالیٰ سے دعا فرماتے کہ آپ کی امت کو سویرے سفر میں برکت دے۔ اگر مسافر تین ہوتے تو ان کو حکم فرماتے کہ ایک کو امیر بنا لیں۔ (زاد المعاد)
سفر کے متعلق ہدایات
- بہتر اور مسنون یہ ہے کہ سفر میں کم از کم دو آدمی جائیں، تنہا آدمی سفر نہ کرے، البتہ ضرورت اور مجبوری میں کوئی حرج نہیں۔
- جمعرات کے دن سفر کرنا مسنون اور ہفتہ کے دن مستحب ہے۔
- رسول اللہ صلى الله عليه وسلم کا ارشاد ہے کہ جب سفر کی ضرورت پوری ہو جائے تو فوراً گھر لوٹ آنا چاہیے، بلا ضرورت سفر میں زیادہ دیر ٹھہرنا مناسب نہیں۔
- طویل سفر سے واپسی پر اچانک گھر میں داخل نہ ہو بلکہ اپنے آنے کی اطلاع دینا بہتر ہے، تاکہ اہلِ خانہ تیاری کر سکیں۔ البتہ اگر پہلے سے اطلاع دی جا چکی ہو تو فوراً داخل ہونے میں حرج نہیں۔
- سفر سے واپس آ کر گھر میں داخل ہونے سے پہلے مسجد میں جا کر دو رکعت نماز ادا کرنا مسنون عمل ہے۔ (زاد المعاد)
